Return Authorization

It is about authorizing the departure and subsequent return to the national territory abroad whose residence or stay authorization is in the period of renewal or extension.

a) To be the holder of a residence or stay authorization and to have initiated the renewal or extension procedures of the authorization that enables him to remain in Spain within the legal term.
b) Be a valid foreigner identity card holder and have submitted a duplicate card request for theft, loss, destruction or uselessness.
c) Prove that the trip responds to a situation of need and exceptional reasons concur and have favorably resolved the initial authorization of residence or stay and have the issuance of the foreigner’s identity card in process.

A return authorization may not be granted to foreigners on whom despite a prohibition of leaving Spain or a limitation on their freedom of movement agreed by the Judicial Authority on a precautionary basis or in an extradition process, or as a result of a final judgment .

Note: in general, copies of the documents must be provided and the originals must be displayed at the time the application is submitted.

Copy of the complete passport or registration card and valid travel document.
Copy of the application for renewal or extension of the authorization or of the foreigner’s identity card, or proof of presentation.
In case c) (to have granted initial authorization of residence or stay and to have the foreigner’s identity card in process): documentation proving that the trip responds to a situation of need and exceptional circumstances concur.
Important note: when documents from other countries are provided, they must be translated into Spanish or co-official language of the territory where the application is submitted.

On the other hand, any foreign public document must be previously legalized by the Consular Office of Spain with jurisdiction in the country in which said document has been issued or, where appropriate, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation except in the case in which said document has been apostilled by the competent Authority of the issuing country under the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961 and unless said document is exempt from legalization under the International Convention.

Subject legitimate to submit the application: the foreigner personally, or by representation.
Place of presentation: any public record and addressed to the Aliens Office or the Police Station corresponding to the province in which the foreigner has his domicile. For information on the address, telephone numbers and customer service hours of the Aliens Office, you can consult the page:
Fees for processing the return authorization: must always be paid prior to the issuance of the return authorization. They are accrued at the time of admission to the application process, and must be paid within ten business days, they are:

The return authorization will be delivered to the foreign citizen who is the recipient of the document, except in two cases:
Minority of age or disability of the foreigner in which the return authorization may be collected by their legal representative.
Concurrence abroad of an accredited impossibility of personal appearance (due to illness or transitory physical impairment accredited by means of a medical certificate or hospital report signed by a registered physician); In this case, you can go to a power of attorney.
The return authorization will be valid for no more than 90 days:
If the residence or stay authorization is not in renewal period, from the date of grant.
If the residence or stay authorization is under renewal:
From the expiration date of the authorization, if requested before it expires.
From the date of grant, if requested after the expiration of the authorization.
The return authorization may be used for all departures and the subsequent return required during the validity of the authorization.
